Growing Together Land-Based Walking Tour

Join us this summer for our Growing Together: “Garden Walking Tour” Presented by Afro Van Connect and Black Space Media INC in partnership with the Museum of Vancouver and the Vancouver Maritime Museum. On Saturday Aug 23, 2025, and September 14th, 2025, at 1pm we will be facilitating a walking tour amplifying the history and culture of Afro-Indigenous farmers, land practices, and culturally relevant foods.  Attendees will be guided through the Kitsilano neighbourhood located on the Westside of Vancouver along the southern shore of English Bay starting at The Museum of Vancouver (MOV) and ending at the Maritime Museum.

This Garden walking tour will expound on the history of Black Pioneers like Feilding Spotts, Sylvia Stark, Howard Estes, and the Alexander family. Attendees will be given an opportunity to learn directly from local knowledge keepers and stewards like Dawn Morrison, Founder of the Indigenous Food Systems Network. The Intention of this tour is to amplify the African descent culture and Indigenous heritage in BC, honouring the lived and shared experience of our ancestors on the unceded territory of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

Kor Kase, Co-Founder of Afro Van Connect (AVC), will be hosting the tour providing an overview of African descent and Black history in Vancouver and guiding patrons through The Museum of Vancouver and the Maritime Museum Garden spaces.
